Hazard Perception Test
Thought i would write a post to clarify a few questions about the new Hazard Perception Test that comes into effect on the 29th March 2021.
The HPT is a series of online videos that are designed to measure your ability to recognize and appropriately respond to potentially dangerous situations while riding. You can complete this Test at home and there are unlimited tries until you pass and has a once off Fee of $37.05. You will need to do the HPT once you have your learners and are ready to upgrade to the RE licence.
Motorcycle Learners
You will not lose your Motorcycle Learners if you don’t do the HPT, it just needs to be done before you upgrade to the RE licence. If you choose to stay on your learners than nothing will change or if you get your RE licence before 29 March you wont need to do this test either. After March and before July you can do the HPT test before or after doing the RE Licence, after July you will need to do the HPT before the RE Licence. We would advise you to do the test before doing the RE Licence that way your licence can be processed at the end of the course.
The HPT is not something to be concerned about, it actually gives riders the opportunity to test their Hazard Perception without any real danger. As a motorcycle rider there are so many hazards we need to be watching for, so anything that can make us more aware is a good thing.
We have had a lot of phone calls and messages in the past week from Riders wanting to upgrade to their RE before this starts and we have added a number of extra courses in March to help out.
If you have been riding and are feeling confident with your bike handling skills, hill starts, tight turns and interacting with traffic then give us a call and we can book you in.
If you are not ready to upgrade, are not planning on getting a bike soon or haven’t ridden as much as you wanted to then no stress, there is plenty of time. Dont rush it, get some practice and book in when you are feeling ready.
Hope this helps but if you have any questions let me know. Back to Home Page
Happy Riding.
